PBA D-League Records History

PBA D-League (better known as the PBA Developmental League) is the premier Amateur Basketball League in the Philippines which supersedes defunct organizations such as Liga Pilipinas and the PBL. It is officially the minor league of the PBA.

PBA D-League was born out of the dissolution of the supposed merger between the PBL and Liga Pilipinas. In 2011, PBA minted the first conference, titled the “Foundation Cup” of the PBA D-League with thirteen (13) teams. The second conference would be dubbed as “Aspirant’s Cup”.

The first Rookie Draft commenced in the 2013-2014 PBA D-League Season.

NLEX is the first title holder in the PBA D-League in the 2011-2012 Foundation Cup. Incidentally, NLEX also holds the most Championship trophies with six (6) Finals victories in the developmental league. In addition, all titles won by NLEX Road Warriors were under Coach Boyet Fernandez.

PBA D-League initially allowed foreign players to play in the league. However, starting 2015-2016 season, the hiring of foreign players was disallowed.
